The Sister Summit Story

Sister Summit is an organization committed to the social, cultural and economic empowerment of women of color through programs that promote education, entrepreneurship and the arts by offering opportunities for personal and professional development. Guests learn from experts, network with other women, shop with local and regional businesses, and discover new resources in their city and new things about themselves. Througout the year, Sister Summit produces conferences, film screenings, entrepreneurial workshops, expos and award galas recognizing trailblazing women in local communities. Sister Summit is held in several US cities and Canada.

Sister Summit was founded in Charleston, SC by local entrepreneur Deona Smith as a way of empowering women of color who were noticeably absent from the many programs and events she attended. “I wanted the women in my group to have opportunties to showcase their businesses, but I also wanted to provide something educational. Sister Summit is my way of giving women, women of color specifically, the opportunity to gain valuable information to push them forward. We come together to learn and to focus on our needs and the needs of our families, but it’s also a time to connect through sisterhood and have a bit of fun,” said Smith.
